With the Christmas period out of the way, I’m sure you’ve now taken down your Christmas decorations and got the house back to normal. However, you might be thinking ‘ah, the house is decorated the same old way we’ve had it for years’. Well, as part of the chance we all get for a fresh start in the New Year; you might have started to think about re-decorating your home.
The New Year is a great time to spruce up your walls and give them a new lease of life. You might want to start decorating right away, or you might have plans to do it in the spring and beyond. As a starting point, this blog will give you some more inspiration to find out what’s trending in 2022.
According to the Chinese calendar, 2022 is the year of the tiger, which represents strength and bravery. Coincidentally, strong, bold wallpapers are trending in 2022, so this is no time for plain stripes. Go all out and try quirky, abstract patterns, or funky animal prints to liven up the place.
So whether it’s your New Year’s resolution is to do up the house, or isn’t, read on for some interior design inspiration from the wallpaper experts themselves!
What's the Colour of the Year?
Mid and light blue colours have been named colour of the year by Graham and Brown and Ideal Home. These soothing hues provide a cool, calming effect which works in any room of your choice. The two blue coloured wallpapers below nicely give off a calming effect and would look great as a feature wall alongside blue paint, or to cover the entire room.
This wallpaper featuring soft details of seagulls and boats which are set against a delicate clouded sky is the perfect example of calm and sereneness. Paired with some white furniture, it creates a relaxing haven to chill out in whilst keeping the atmosphere nice and light and airy. Long, floaty, white curtains in a living room would add to the serene atomphere that this wallpaper brings.
This bloom and bee sky blue wallpaper oozes elegance and class. Inspired to celebrate British flora and fauna, this modern wallpaper with a blue background and sunshine yellow flowers and bees has a delicate appeal. It creates the effect that you are outdoors, whilst simultaneously maintaining a cosy and homely feel - this is why we love it! The yellow amongst the sky blue background gives off a positive, happy vibe which intertwines with the calming effect that the blue has. Paired with wooden furniture, white and some plants, this wallpaper will make you feel like you're in amongst nature. We think this wallpaper would work particularly well in a room that has lots of natural light.
Bold and Brave Wallpapers
The following wallpapers are full of impactful and colourful patterns and will help you to stay right on trend in 2022.
This rather bold wallpaper keeps to the blue theme, but has an interesting repeat pattern which features exotic, hand-painted peacocks in tones of black and antique gold. The peacocks are surrounded by pretty foliage, flowers and butterflies in pale gold and rich teal shades with metallic and glitter accents throughout, set on a deep teal blue background. This would make a great statement feature wall, or could cover the entire room.
This beautiful Tropical Infinity Wallpaper will bring a touch of elegant style to your home. Part of the Paul Moneypenny wallpaper collection, the stunning design features vibrant and colourful tropical birds, leaves and flowers in rich jewel tones, overlapping and entwined with a bold black geometric Greek key style pattern on a soft black background.
Panel Wallpaper with a Twist
2021 saw a huge surge in popularity for panel wallpaper, but 2022 has gone a step further and added some patterns to the otherwise plain panels.
This design which is based on large wood panels in soft silver grey tones uses clever shading to create a stunning 3D effect. The traditional panel wallpaper is elevated as the centre of each panel features hand-painted style grey and white cranes with beige and cream flowers and leaves on a soft grey backdrop.
Part of the Paul Moneypenny wallpaper collection, this stunning design features tropical passion flowers and palm leaves in rich tones of teal and emerald green on a navy background, overlaid with a wood effect frame in dark navy blue for a vibrant take on the wood panel trend.
Quirky and Abstract Wallpapers
This design is based on a stylish cascade of arches creating a stunning geometric pattern in tones of white and cream with a matte black outline, set on a lightly textured background featuring subtle cream highlights. It intertwines abstract with the popular geometric design to create a sophisticated pattern which would look great in a hallway or a living room.
This striking wallpaper is new to our collection this year and is also available in a blush pink and white colourway. The unique design will make a stylish statement in your home, and looks great when styled with wood, monochrome colours and yellow. The striking yet minimal design features flowing matte black lines that form abstract faces with a fresh modern art feel, set on a contrasting crisp white backdrop with a smooth matte finish.
