What is Arts and Crafts Wallpaper?

When it comes to arts and crafts wallpaper, it is notoriously difficult to define. Many classic arts and crafts wallpaper contain natural patterns and motifs of floral leaves and trees, but the very essence of arts and crafts wallpaper comes from its natural and honest creation, never misrepresenting itself as low or high relief architectural ornament.

What is the arts and crafts movement?

Many believe that the arts and crafts movement began in 1860 in England, centred around the designs of William Morris. His intricate eye and designs revolutionised wallpaper, fabric and carpeting, with many still remaining iconic many years since his passing. He was one of many who sought to push back against industrialism, which he thought to be dehumanising, and instead return to a much more naturalistic design and concept. As a designer, he sought to reconnect the craftsman with the fruits of their labour, by reintroducing traditional crafts into the home.
